Happy New Year

Wow - Christmas has come and gone fast. Now we look forward to a new year and all the surprises it will hold. Last year had a few surprises but we made it through. The biggest one was my husbands health. In July he was really sick and ended up going into the Saskatoon University hospital by ambulance with severe chest pain. He was diagnosed with Myocarditis, inflamation of the heart muscle caused by a virus. He was off work for a couple weeks. He needed that time to rest and recover. There was no damage to the heart but he still needs to know his limits. He's been good since but he does still have mild chest pain but very rarely. There is a less than 20% chance this will happen again.

This year I was excited to start this blog and promote my crocheting. I love it and can't wait to see what will happen this year. I'm going to start on a few new things and change a few things too. The first is shipping. Now that I've sent a few things and learned a few tricks, I'm going to decrease my rates. The first item is $3. If you purchase 2 items shipping will be $5. If you purchase more than 2 items, I will let you know what it will cost.

Thank you for your support. I'm hoping to do more giveaways throughout the year too. I will let you know when those will happen so you can tell your friends.

Happy New Year,
God Bless,

Jodi

Only 6 days till Christmas

I didn't think I'd say this with almost a whole week left but I'm almost ready for Christmas. More ready than yesterday anyway. I still have a few things on my list that need to get done, but I'm not stressing over them. I need to remember that this is Christmas - you're not supposed to get stressed. I'm trying to finish up a couple projects for my children and 2 nieces and get some baking done, a few more presents need to be wrapped and that's it - maybe that's too much for only having 5 days to get them done.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.

God Bless you all.

What a Hoot!!

I decided to take advantage of some black Friday sales. Not living in the States this day doesn't usually excite me too much but I came across a few sales. I follow the blog Craftaholics Anonymous and she had some etsy stores offering a few black Friday sales. I've known about Inner Hooker for awhile - love her patterns but just never got around to buying any. Well, she was offering 4 patterns for $10 - what a deal. So i bought 4 crochet hat patterns- Owl, Fox, Raccoon and Skunk. So today I finished the Owl hat - it turned out great. I usually manage to make a few mistakes because I don't read the pattern right, but this pattern was easy to follow. Here are a couple photos of my daughter in her new hat.

My little model

Well, she's not really mine, baby belongs to a friend.
She offered to take photos of her little girl in some of my hats and props.
It makes me want to have my own little model - almost anyway.

New Creations

I'm excited to show you some of my new creations. I was sent a picture of a hat someone wanted me to copy for their little girl. I decided I could give it a whirl and do my best to replicate the hat. This is what I made.

And of course with matching scarf and mitts.

Home from Holidays

Well, we got home last night from 2.5 weeks of holidays. While it's great to be home, it was so nice to visit with family and friends we haven't seen for a long time. I even managed to get some crocheting time in, and now that we are back I need to get my orders sorted out and start getting them done. I've lost track of how many projects I need to finish for other people. WHERE'S my LIST! While on our journey, I did find 2 yarn stores that were fun to browse through and found some great deals on yarn. One in Campbell River, BC, Needle and Arts Centre and the other in Sooke, BC. We even went into the States one day and I went to JoAnns fabric and craft store. Overwhelming would put it mildly. So much fabric, lots of yarn, great deals. I went in looking for fabric for my sons Halloween costumes but came out with lots of yarn too. We just can get some of that stuff here. Well, better get to my projects.

Crocheting . . .

I have been finding a few more patterns. I love to use half-double or double crochet - it just seems so much faster, so when I find a pattern that includes it - I've gotta try it.

Berry Hat

So, I was digging through my pattern book the other day and I forgot that I had this pattern. I make it a little different than the instructions say, adding the stem on top, but I love it and think it's adorable. I call it my "Berry" Hat. It can be made from any color to make it look like any berry. I love the edging of the hat. It makes it look so delicate.

More hats

Here are a few more projects I have completed in the sort-of recent past. During the winter, when being outside is limited because of the weather, I am able to find more time to get projects done.

The boys have been asking for dinosaurs hats since November, when we went to Drumheller. So, I used my limited imagination and came up with this. It's a spiketail, aka Stegosauras.

Spring crochet hats

I love spring. It's a mixture of freshness and warmth and change. Because we live on an acreage, we are surrounded by nature. Spring is also the perfect time for a new hat, like an easter bonnet. My youngest is a girl and girls are so much more fun to make things for. So for the past 2 years she has gotten a new hat, or 2.

This hat pattern is from the April 2008 issue of Crochet World. It's called In Her Easter Bonnet.

It's beautiful. My friend wanted one for her little girl too.

Puppy Tops crochet hats

I love to crochet. I'll try anything once. I decided I needed to try something new, so I came up with a plan and put it to paper, or hook I guess, and came out with these.
